The Gallery and the Guilt.

A Day Off That Felt Like Failure.

Today was spent volunteering at a local art gallery that was changing hands. We had to move work and set up different artists in different areas as changes are being made. It was nice to get out and talk with other artists and friends. Many times when we are in our studios and at work for long periods of time we forget to socialize. A few of the volunteers brought a dish to pass. They had a table set up with all the good food.

The old Slanted Art Gallery is now changing to Your Needful Nook & Dare to Dream Art Center in Montrose, PA. At the time of this writing, I have a few of my pots there and hope to put more in once the renovations are complete. They are building a nice classroom downstairs so artists can use the space for teaching classes. I thought it might be nice to teach a workshop there on not only pottery but also on product photography and other business-related topics.

Later, I worked on my website and relaxed. It was nice to have a quiet Sunday off for once. It did not take long for me to start beating myself up for not working on the kiln while the weather was cool. Last year, while I was working, the work days were in late June and July, and the weather was very hot. The best time to build it seems is in the early spring and late summer into the fall.

Tomorrow will need to be a kiln work day. I need to put a new battery in the old Wheel Horse tractor my dad loaned me and see if I can get it to start so I can haul more brick out back to the kiln pad area so I can have the bricks at the right location as I finish the build. Even if I move a few pallets of brick it will be a big step in the right direction.

If I were living yesterday a second time: I would have enjoyed the quiet Sunday off without immediately beating myself up for not working on the kiln.

Things I am grateful for: The volunteers at the gallery who brought food to share. Getting out and socializing with other artists and friends.

Days remaining if I live to 86: 12,709
