The Chawan Tea cups and bowls were used in the Japanese tea ceremony and come in different shapes and sizes. For more information on the topic of Chawan click here.
I was happy with the purchase of a used treadle wheel. I decided to create this collection for a show I was scheduled for at the Slanted Art Gallery, in Montrose, PA. In this collection, I was experimenting with the simple line and form I was getting from the treadle wheel. Also, I enjoyed putting texture on the bottoms on most of these and when set on a flat surface the shapes created by the altered foot was also interesting to me. The tea cup in the featured image is owned by a private collector.
